We have developed our face to face engagement. This builds on the existing network of Patient Participation Groups (PPGS) attached to GP practices. Building on PPGs provides a good geographical coverage across the three CCG areas and provides an opportunity for all member practices to involve their registered patients in discussions relating to local health services generally as well as practice-specific. To develop the CCG's engagement model a workshop was held with patients and voluntary sector representatives - this report highlights what was discussed.
District Patient Groups
PPG representatives are invited to attend the CCG’s District Patient Groups. The aim is to create a two-way flow of information between the CCG and the wider population, using the PPGs as a conduit, to inform and engage the population in CCG activities and local health services beyond primary care. To try and involve a more representative proportion of the population, the District Patient Groups are open to individuals and organisations outside the PPGs that are able to represent the views of different demographics and different parts of the local community in each district.
Commissioning Patient Council
With the three south Staffordshire CCG's working more closely together and following the development of the pan-Staffordshire Sustainability and Transformation Programme, the CCGs have introduced a Commissioning Patient Council across the three areas. The Commissioning Patient Council aims to develop a forum of informed participants to contribute to the strategic planning, development and delivery of the most effective health services for the local population. It will bring together representatives from the four District Patient Groups to ensure there is a local focus to strategic discussions as well as representatives from the community and voluntary sector.
The Commissioning Patient Council will be strategically led by the CCGs Joint Communications and Engagement Committee but report directly to the Governing Bodies and feed information on patient experiences (both local and themes across the three areas) to the Joint Quality Committee. It will also be the key link between the patient groups in the three CCG areas and any work coming out of the STP, including opportunities for engagement or more formal consultations.
